Jason has been following Jesus since he was a kid—first, as a five-year-old kneeling at the altar to receive Christ; more intently as a nine-year-old scared that he might not make it to 10. During a violent storm, he was riding with his brothers in the back of the family van. When a tornado picked up the semi on the road in front of them, he reached out in panic to the God he knew about but didn’t really know. Jesus met him there, and Jason surrendered his life.
A few years later, at a youth group, Jason met Betsy—he was 13, she was 11, “super cute, super friendly, and she loved Jesus.” They married in 1999 and now have six kids of their own through birth, fostering and adoption. Considering the ways Jesus reached out to Jason when he was still young, it’s no wonder he has such a love for youth, for calling out the spiritual gifting he sees in them and training them to be empowered for ministry. Jason’s heart is to see teens connecting to the Father’s heart, and he has spent the last 20 years helping them make that connection.
He serves not only as Youth Pastor but also as Community Pastor. In that regard, he oversees worship and Community Groups and puts a high priority on training and raising up leaders, old as well as young. Jason and Betsy have a heart for hospitality and caring well for family and friends.
On a regional level, Jason trains and resources youth ministry workers as the Youth Pastors and Leaders Mentor for Vineyard Midwest North Region. He also writes regularly for a blog sponsored by Vineyard Youth USA.
Jason relishes the opportunity to get out in nature and connect with God. His camera goes where he goes, allowing him to recreate the beauty he sees in creation by capturing wildlife and scenic landscapes. He also enjoys developing as a woodworker, turning reclaimed lumber into functional furniture.
